Cryptocurrency? I Still Think Cash Is King.

What are your thoughts about cryptocurrency?

My honest thoughts about cryptocurrency? Deep down, a lot of it feels like bullshit to me.

I’ve messed around with it over the years. Bought some, sold some, paid attention. I’m interested in technology, and I like seeing where things are going. But being interested in something doesn’t mean I have to believe in it.

And crypto has never completely sold me.

I’m a car guy. I like tangible things. If I buy a car, I can walk outside and look at it. I can drive it, fix it, sell it. I understand what I own and what I can do with it.

With crypto, I’m looking at a number on a screen and listening to somebody explain why it’s going to change the world.

Maybe they believe that. I’m still trying to figure out how it makes my everyday life better.

People talk about blockchain, decentralization, and getting away from the banks. I understand the appeal of having more control over your money. But when I start thinking about wallets, passwords, transfers, fees, and keeping everything secure, it feels like another thing I have to manage.

Another complication.

And yes, I realize my bank balance is mostly a number on a screen too. I use digital banking. I’m not pretending every dollar I own is sitting in a stack in front of me.

But that’s part of why I still appreciate physical cash.

Put cash in my hand and we can make a deal. I don’t need to charge my phone, get a connection, open an app, or figure out whether I sent it to the right address.

Cash is still fucking king in my book.

The security side bothers me too. I’m not saying somebody can just casually hack every blockchain. What concerns me is everything surrounding it: the accounts, the platforms, the scams, and the possibility of making one expensive mistake.

I don’t like the thought of somebody halfway around the world finding a way into an account while I’m sitting at home thinking everything is fine. Digital banking gives me some of those same concerns. Moving more of my life onto a screen doesn’t automatically make me feel more secure.

And whenever I hear a big pitch about financial freedom, I want to understand the costs. What does it cost to buy, move, and sell? How much effort does it take to protect? Can I easily use it when I need it?

Those questions matter more to me than somebody’s prediction about the next big price jump.

I’ll keep watching cryptocurrency. I’m curious, and I’m willing to change my mind if I see a reason to. But right now, I don’t feel the need to become a believer.

I like useful things. I like straightforward deals. I like knowing what I own.

And if you’re coming to buy a car from me, I’m still perfectly happy to hear:

“I’ve got cash.”

I’ll keep watching the technology. But when it’s time to make a deal, cash is still king.
