If you could switch lives with a famous person for a week, who would it be and why?
Today’s blog prompt actually irritated me.
Nobody. Not for a week. Not for a day.
My first thought was, why the hell would I want to do that?
I’m very happy being me. I have things I’m working on, problems I need to solve, and goals I haven’t reached yet. Some days are stressful. Some days everything takes three times longer than it should.
I still want my life.
Life by Design
I believe in building a life you actually want to live. Making decisions about how you spend your time, what you work toward, and what matters to you.
You don’t control everything that happens. Anybody who has lived a little knows that. Things go sideways. People disappoint you. You make mistakes and deal with consequences you wish you could undo.
But you still have choices. You can change direction. You can build better habits. You can start putting your energy into something that means something to you.
That’s what life by design means to me. Taking ownership of the life you have and doing something with it.
If there’s an experience I want, I want to figure out how to have it as myself.
Famous Doesn’t Make It Better
I can appreciate somebody’s talent, work ethic, or accomplishments. I can learn from what they’ve done.
But I’ve never looked at a famous person and thought, “I wish I could be you.”
I don’t know what their life feels like when they wake up in the morning. I don’t know what they worry about, what their relationships are like, or whether they’re even happy.
A recognizable name doesn’t answer any of that.
And even if they love their life, good for them. I love mine, too.
Happy and Still Hungry
I have a lot left that I want to do.
Businesses I want to build. Cars I want to put together and drive. Places I want to see. Things I want to write, film, and share.
Being happy with my life doesn’t mean I’m finished building it. I can appreciate where I am and still wake up ready to work toward more.
There’s satisfaction in that process. Taking an idea that’s been sitting in your head and finally making it happen. Learning something. Fixing something. Looking back and seeing progress that came from your own effort.
I want more of those days.
I like my morning coffee. I like having my own ideas and the freedom to pursue them. I like knowing there’s still work ahead of me that I’m excited to do.
Why would I want to skip a week of that?
I’ll Keep Being Me
I understand that it’s a hypothetical question. Some people would have fun picking a celebrity and imagining the experience.
My honest answer just happens to be nobody.
I’ve spent 47 years becoming this person. I’ve learned some things the hard way, made plenty of mistakes, and built a life I’m grateful to have.
I want to see what I can do with it.
So I’ll keep my week. I have plans for it.
