I have to tell you the truth.

There isn’t one.

Maybe that sounds weird, but I’ve never had that fascination with celebrities. Even when I was younger, I remember seeing people get completely wrapped up in somebody they’d never met, and I just didn’t understand it.

I still don’t.

Even the jersey thing has always been strange to me. Wearing some other guy’s name across my back? I know people love their teams and their favorite players. Enjoy it. It just never clicked for me.

I can enjoy a movie. I can appreciate somebody’s talent. I can watch someone do something incredibly well and respect the work it took to get there.

But I’ve never felt the need to meet them because of it.

Honestly, I don’t even know the names of a lot of actors. There’s a pretty good chance I could be standing next to somebody famous and have absolutely no idea. We could have a whole conversation, and somebody would have to tell me afterward who I’d been talking to.

And that would be fine with me.

If we crossed paths and started talking, I’d treat them the same way I’d treat anybody else. Say hello. See what we have in common. Maybe talk about cars, life, business, or whatever came up.

I wouldn’t have some big question prepared. I’d just be meeting another person.

What interests me is how somebody treats you. Can we have a real conversation? Do they have a sense of humor? Are they someone I’d actually enjoy being around?

You find that out by talking to them. Their name doesn’t answer any of those questions.

Here’s what I kept thinking about after reading the prompt: If nobody told you a person was famous, would you still want to sit down and talk with them?

Maybe you would. Maybe you’d hit it off immediately. That could be the beginning of a friendship.

Or maybe you’d have absolutely nothing in common, finish your coffee, and go your separate ways.

Same as anybody else.

I’m sure there are famous people I’d enjoy getting to know. There are also plenty of people I’ve never heard of who probably have stories I’d love to hear.

I just don’t have a celebrity wish list. Never have.

So my answer to today’s prompt is pretty simple: There’s no celebrity I’m dying to meet.

But if we happen to cross paths, pull up a chair. We can talk like everybody else.
