Starting Over Doesn’t Mean Starting From Zero

If you could start a new business right now, what would it be?

The truth is, I already am.

I’m building a new kind of automotive business, but it’s bigger than simply buying and selling cars. It combines everything I know about the car business with everything I’m learning about content creation, media, and building an audience.

The automotive side is called 7101 Motors.

After more than 25 years in the car business, I know exactly what I want—and, maybe more importantly, what I don’t want.

I don’t want to spend my life standing around dealer auctions, competing against hundreds of other buyers for the same worn-out inventory. I don’t want to build another traditional buy-here-pay-here operation and spend every day chasing payments, repossessing cars, and managing other people’s problems.

I’ve done that. I know that business. I also know there has to be a better way for me to use everything I’ve learned.

My vision for 7101 Motors is to find older GM trucks and SUVs directly from private owners—vehicles like Tahoes, Yukons, Suburbans, Escalades, Sierras, Silverados, and other platforms I genuinely understand and enjoy.

I want to buy them right, bring them back to life, improve them without ruining what made them great, and create clean, dependable, OEM-plus builds that people can actually drive.

Not trailer queens.

Not overpriced auction flips with a quick detail and a warning light temporarily cleared.

Real vehicles with real stories.

The kind of truck somebody has owned for eight or ten years. The kind sitting in a driveway because it needs work, but still has good bones. The kind most dealers overlook because it doesn’t fit neatly into their financing program.

That is where experience matters.

I know what I’m looking at. I know what can be fixed, what should be avoided, what parts have value, and how to recognize opportunity when other people only see an old truck.

But 7101 Motors is only one piece of the business.

The second piece is building a media empire around it.

Modern Day Dealer allows me to document the entire journey—the search, the negotiation, the purchase, the problems, the repairs, the decisions, the finished build, and eventually the sale.

One vehicle can become dozens of pieces of content.

The buying process becomes a video. The first inspection becomes a video. The repairs become videos. The mistakes become lessons. The transformation becomes a story. The road trip becomes an adventure. Even the sale becomes part of the content.

That means I’m not just building vehicles. I’m building an audience, a brand, and a library of content that can continue working long after a particular truck is sold.

That is the part of business that excites me right now.

In the old days, you needed a physical dealership, a large inventory, expensive advertising, and a sales team to reach enough people. Today, one person with a phone, experience, consistency, and something real to say can reach the entire world.

The dealership gives the content substance.

The content gives the dealership reach.

The audience creates opportunities beyond the vehicles themselves: advertising revenue, sponsorships, merchandise, events, partnerships, and eventually other businesses that fit naturally under the same brand.

The long-term vision is much larger than one small car lot.

I can see 7101 Motors locations running along the I-75 corridor, with the main operation handling repairs, restoration, and reconditioning. I can see vehicles being sourced in Florida, built in Michigan, driven across the country, featured at major automotive events, and sold nationwide.

I can see the Chevelle becoming the main character of an entire year on the road—Power Tour, Woodward, LS Fest, Route 66, and every stop along the way.

Every mile creates content.

Every build strengthens the brand.

Every customer becomes part of the story.

That is the business I would start today because it brings together the things I’m best at and the things I actually enjoy: finding opportunities, working on vehicles, telling stories, traveling, meeting people, and building something that belongs to me.

Some people hear “starting a new business” and assume it means abandoning everything they’ve done before.

I see it differently.

Starting over doesn’t mean starting from zero.

I’m bringing more than 25 years of experience, every mistake I’ve made, every deal I’ve completed, every vehicle I’ve repaired, and every lesson I’ve learned into this next chapter.

I’m not trying to recreate my old life.

I’m building a better version of it.

7101 Motors is the product. Modern Day Dealer is the voice. The media empire is the future.

And I’m already building it.
