If you could have dinner with any fictional character, who would it be?
Most people would choose the superhero with the coolest suit, the wizard with the greatest powers, or the billionaire with unlimited resources.
I wouldn’t.
Because eventually I realized something: no fictional character is going to build my future for me.
For years I admired people who seemed larger than life. They inspired me. They pushed me to dream bigger. But somewhere along the way I learned that admiration has to turn into action.
The life you want isn’t found at a dinner table.
It’s built in the garage after everyone else goes home.
It’s written one blog post at a time before sunrise.
It’s filmed one video at a time when nobody is watching.
It’s earned through thousands of small decisions that nobody applauds.
We spend so much time imagining conversations with extraordinary people that we sometimes forget the most important conversation we’ll ever have is the one with ourselves.
Will I keep going today?
Will I choose discipline over comfort?
Will I build instead of complain?
Those questions matter far more than any imaginary dinner ever could.
The older I get, the less interested I am in meeting heroes.
I’m more interested in becoming the kind of person my future children, friends, and even strangers might one day point to and say:
“He built something meaningful.”
If I could sit down with anyone, fictional or otherwise, I’d probably spend most of the meal asking questions.
But tomorrow morning?
I’d still have to wake up and do the work.
Because no conversation—no matter how inspiring—can replace consistent execution.
Build your life so well that one day, someone wishes they could have dinner with you.
