People always ask what outdated technology I miss the most.

For me, it’s the little things.

Ashtrays in cars. Crank windows. Vent wing windows that actually pulled fresh air into the cabin. Metal keys instead of push-button starts.

None of those things made a vehicle faster.

None of them made it more luxurious.

But they made the experience feel real.

You reached over and rolled the window down. You cracked the vent window just enough on a summer evening. You grabbed a map, talked to the person next to you, and enjoyed the drive instead of staring at another screen.

Maybe that’s why I enjoy working on older vehicles so much.

They’re honest.

You can hear them. Feel them. Fix them.

Today’s technology is incredible, and I appreciate what it can do. But somewhere along the way, we traded a little bit of character for convenience.

The best things in life usually require a little more effort.

Maybe that’s why I’m still drawn to the old stuff.

Not because it’s outdated.

Because it reminds me that not everything needs to be automated to be better.
