What I Love Now That I Hated When I Was Younger

What do you love now, that you hated when you were younger?

When I was younger, I couldn’t sit still.

I always felt like I had to be chasing something—another deal, another car, another weekend, another distraction. Quiet felt like wasted time.

Now?

Give me a cup of coffee before the sun comes up.

I didn’t even like coffee until I was 36 years old.

Give me a cigar on the back deck.

Give me a garage with a classic car that needs a little work.

Give me a notebook, a few hours to think, and something meaningful to build.

It’s funny how age changes your definition of success.

Those quiet mornings with a fresh cup of coffee have become some of the most productive and peaceful moments of my day.

I’ve learned that excitement fades.

Peace lasts.

The older I get, the more I appreciate consistency over chaos, maintenance over neglect, and steady progress over quick wins.

Maybe that’s what growing up really is—not losing your ambition, but finding a calmer way to pursue it.

Sometimes the things we once avoided become the things we value most.

What’s something you love today that your younger self would never have understood?

Funny how life works.

The things I couldn’t wait to leave behind when I was younger are the things I look forward to most today.

A quiet morning.
A strong cup of coffee.
A good cigar.
Time to think.
Time to build.

Peace isn’t boring.

It’s earned.
