The other day, I found myself driving to a storage unit to pick up a plastic engine cover for my Escalade.
Most people would probably think that’s ridiculous.
The truck runs perfectly fine without it.
It doesn’t make more horsepower.
It doesn’t improve fuel mileage.
Most people will never even see it.
But I wanted it.
Not because I needed it.
Because details matter.
The older I get, the more I realize that excellence is usually found in the things nobody notices.
The customer doesn’t see the hours spent cleaning up a deal.
The viewer doesn’t see the hundreds of videos before one finally gains traction.
The audience doesn’t see the late nights writing blog posts.
Most people only see the finished product.
What they don’t see are the small decisions made over and over again behind the scenes.
A clean engine cover.
A cleaned-up wheel.
A repaired part instead of ignored maintenance.
None of those things change everything by themselves.
But together, they become a standard.
And standards have a funny way of spreading into every area of life.
How you maintain your vehicle.
How you run your business.
How you treat people.
How you keep promises to yourself.
It’s rarely one big decision that changes your life.
It’s a thousand little ones.
Most people are looking for a breakthrough.
I’ve found more value in paying attention to the details.
Even the ones nobody notices.
