Nobody Talks About Maintenance

Everybody wants the transformation.

Nobody wants the maintenance.

People get excited about buying the house. Nobody talks about cleaning it, repairing it, insuring it, and maintaining it for the next twenty years.

People get excited about buying the car. Nobody talks about oil changes, brakes, tires, batteries, and all the little things that keep it running.

People get excited about starting a business. Nobody talks about the daily grind of showing up when nobody is watching, solving problems, paying bills, and doing the work over and over again.

The same thing applies to health.

Everybody wants the results.

Very few people want the workouts, the discipline, the sleep, the nutrition, and the consistency required to maintain those results.

Relationships are no different.

Most people focus on finding the right person. Far fewer focus on becoming the kind of person who can maintain a healthy relationship over time.

I’ve realized that most of life isn’t about the big moments.

It’s about maintenance.

The daily habits.

The small decisions.

The things nobody applauds.

The things nobody sees.

The blog post you write when you don’t feel like writing.

The workout you do when you’re tired.

The phone call you make.

The vehicle you take care of.

The promises you keep to yourself.

Anybody can get excited for a day.

Anybody can make a big announcement.

The real challenge is maintaining momentum long after the excitement wears off.

That’s where the game is won.

Not in the transformation.

In the maintenance.
