When I was younger, I wanted all the stuff.
The bigger house.
The nicer car.
The expensive watch.
The image.
I thought success looked a certain way.
And maybe for a while, it did.
But something funny happens as you get older.
You start realizing that everything comes with a cost.
A bigger house isn’t just a bigger house.
It’s more maintenance.
More expenses.
More things to manage.
A nicer car isn’t just a nicer car.
It’s insurance.
Maintenance.
Storage.
Attention.
None of those things are bad.
But eventually you start asking a different question.
Not, “Can I afford it?”
But, “Does it actually improve my life?”
That’s a completely different way of looking at the world.
These days, I’m much more interested in freedom than appearances.
I’d rather have control of my time than impress strangers.
I’d rather build assets than buy liabilities.
I’d rather spend a quiet evening on the dock than spend the night trying to impress people I don’t even know.
The older I get, the more I realize that peace is a luxury.
Freedom is a luxury.
Time is a luxury.
The funny thing is, I spent years chasing things I thought would make me happy.
Now I’m focused on building a life that actually does.
Maybe that’s what growing up really is.
Not getting everything you want.
Realizing what matters enough to keep.
And what doesn’t.
– Nicholas Francis

The goal was to build the freedom to choose how I spend my time.
