“Money Can’t Buy Happiness”

Money didn’t buy the sunrise.

But it bought the freedom to sit here and enjoy it.

Most people think money is the goal.

I’ve learned that freedom is the goal.

Money is just one of the tools.

One proverb I think is completely wrong is:

“Money can’t buy happiness.”

Now before anybody gets upset, let me explain.

I don’t believe money automatically makes people happy.

I’ve met people with money who were miserable, and I’ve met people with very little who were genuinely happy.

But I also think it’s dishonest to pretend money doesn’t matter.

Money may not buy happiness, but it can buy freedom.

It can buy time.

It can buy better healthcare.

It can buy safer neighborhoods.

It can buy opportunities.

It can buy experiences with the people you care about.

Most importantly, it can reduce a tremendous amount of stress.

The happiest moments of my life weren’t purchased.

Laughing with family.

Sitting on the water watching the sunrise.

Talking with friends.

Remembering old stories.

Those things don’t have a price tag.

But money gave me the freedom to create more of those moments.

That’s the difference.

I don’t chase money because I think a bigger bank account will magically make me happy.

I chase financial freedom because I want options.

I want the ability to spend time where I want, work on projects I enjoy, help people I care about, and build a life on my own terms.

Money isn’t happiness.

Money is options.

And options are powerful.

Maybe that’s why I’ve never agreed with the proverb.

Because while money can’t buy happiness, it can buy the freedom to pursue it.

And that’s pretty valuable.
